Test coding in Zagreb 26 – 30 June 2017

After we recruited 18 coders, between June 26 – 30 we implemented test coding at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb and the city library Božidar Adžija, which hosts the media archive. The test coding had several objectives; most importantly to figure out how well the protocol and draft codebook worked for the student coders, whether the online platform was a viable working tool, and whether the students who enthusiastically signed up for this work would be able to maintain their enthusiasm once they realised what the work entailed.

After a week of getting to know the method, the protocol, the intricacies of the online platform, as well as the debates and feedback sessions, we were quite aware of all the limitations of the PEA method, but still excited to be going ahead. Data coding for Croatia is starting on August 28, while other countries will be joining soon after.
